Clinton Health Access Initiative, State Engagement Analyst, Vaccines


Overview:
Since 2002, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, CHAI (formerly the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative), has been assisting developing countries in implementing large-scale, integrated HIV care, treatment, and prevention programs. CHAI is currently active in Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, and Eastern Europe.

CHAI will apply the techniques it has successfully used to improve access to HIV/AIDS and malaria treatment in developing countries to essential vaccines. By scaling up vaccines coverage in developing countries to 90 percent and introducing new vaccines; pentavalent, pneumococcal conjugate and rotavirus vaccines; the death of over 7.6 million children could be averted over the next decade.

CHAI Nigeria is currently seeking a State Engagement Analyst to accelerate the introduction and uptake of life-saving pentavalent and pneumococcal vaccines. Nigeria is one of the focus countries where CHAI has worked closely with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) to roll-out HIV/AIDS and health systems strengthening programs in recent years. As part of this initiative, CHAI will support the FMOH and state MOHs to effectively plan, execute and evaluate the introduction of the new vaccines.
Responsibilities:

  • Support CHAI's strategy to accelerate new vaccines introduction by strengthening state routine immunization (RI) programs in readiness for new vaccines introduction
  • Support state-level immunization program managers/stakeholders to develop, coordinate and implement robust state plans that complement national plans for new vaccines introduction
  • Develop a thorough understanding of RI systems that exists at key selected states
  • Ensure effective communication exists between the national and state levels to facilitate new vaccines introduction in the states
  • Facilitate the establishment and regular engagement of state-level coordinating mechanisms to guide new vaccines introduction in the states
  • Facilitate local governments engagement in state coordinating bodies to ensure their improved readiness for new vaccines introduction
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of robust evaluation methodologies; and translation of findings into appropriate changes that strengthen state routine immunization (RI) programs for new vaccines introduction
  • Facilitate the development and testing of tools at state level that can contribute to strengthening the RI program for new vaccines introduction
  • Support in identifying gaps in the RI program at state level that hinder new vaccines introduction and rapidly pursue appropriate steps to address them
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Country Director
Qualifications:

  • Exceptional problem solving skills and analytical capabilities and ability to build strong relationship with state ministry officials
  • 2+ years of working experience; experience working in with state health systems or in the vaccines program in Nigeria is an advantage; private sector experience is also a plus
  • A bachelors degree from a reputable university; graduate applicants are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and be effective in high-pressure situations
  • Ability to operate independently, setting an achieving ambitious targets with limited guidance
  • High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications
